Have run 22 marathons to date.

No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

58F; overcast and windy at times (~15 mph w/ gusts to 29). Easy run. 20 min strength work.

A fine and pleasant ride on the SnotnSniffle Express.  I was surprised by my energy level. I left enough time to get at least 8 miles, maybe a little over, but must have been moving faster than I thought to get 8.41.  Good little immune system, good, good.

About strength training... I have several friends whom I respect and trust, who swear they "love lifting weights."  I'm sure they're telling the truth. I wonder if they know I'm telling the truth when I say "I love running."  Anyway, how can they love lifting weights?  I absolutely hate it, though I am 100% convinced that it is important.   I don't expect an answer; I'm just whining.  I also take cod liver oil, because I'm convinced it's important.  If someone said, "I love cod liver oil!" --that would give you an idea of how bizarre this love-lifting sentiment seems to me.

Glad the cold is clearing out.

How could anyone love lifting weights? I don't get it.

Now cod liver oil...I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that one. :-)

To each his or her own, I suppose. I don't hate lifting weights, but I much prefer running. Now cod liver oil, I don't think so.

I'm glad you're feeling better. I should have used your cold recovery treatment this last time around, but I was too lazy to go buy echinacea.

You have to be really careful about CL oil. There is a lot of crap on the market, and poor quality control re toxins and heavy metals from the fish. I take Carlson's "Lemon Flavored" (yeah, right), which you can get at a discount from vitacost.com. I trust the purity. It really is the most bioavailable source of Omega 3s, among other nutrients.

Yea - it sounds like you got some good energy back after being sick last week!!

Lemon flavored cod oil - really? But I agree you need to be careful about where you get your fish or fish oil nowadays.

I just threw up a little and I'll bet it tastes better than lemon cod liver oil, YUK! Glad you're feeling better :)

LOL Rattletrap you are funny... but so true.

Sounds like we are all in agreement with the weight training. I have been trying to incorporate more into my workouts... but I hate it!

Actually when I'm not running as much I love weights. It makes me feel strong and confident. Sometimes it is the push I need to get running. So go ahead...call me crazy!

Jeff - Very interesting looking marathon! They aren't listed in marathonguide.com, so no reviews to go by. But it looks like it could be wonderful. Another elevation chart that I can't fathom, btw. Do you know anyone who has run it?

Sno...my brother knows somebody that runs it every year and loves it...
