Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

39F, clear & calm.  Easy run.

Last week my daughter had a bad cold all week, and now I'm wondering if I might be fighting it.  I just don't feel my zippy self.  The abundance of snot I've experienced since the weekend could be the cold air, but now I wonder...

Food corner: Kale Chips....  take a bunch of washed kale and tear the leaf area off the stems in potato chip size pieces.  Get a big bowl and whisk together: 3T olive oil, 2T fresh lemon juice and 1/2 t celtic sea salt (or any salt, but css has more minerals).  Toss in the kale strips and rub the mixture in - fingers work best.  Spread on parchment-lined baking sheet.  Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes.  Cool and serve. I strongly suggest looking at them after 8 or 9 minutes; they should be crunchy (feel brittle) but not browned, else they will have a burnt taste.

I actually stole this recipe from Elana's Pantry website, but changed the quantities a bit.   Even my kale-hating family loved these.

Dang these colds! I guess you know the drill.

Kale chips, eh? Interesting recipe. Can you get kale at the regular old grocery store?

If I couldn't find kale at a grocery store, I would be hesitant to shop there anymore. Shocking! It would be like not finding any broccoli in a store. My store usually has at least 3 kinds of kale. Kale is one of the cruciferous vegetables and so versatile. I used the curly leaf type for this, but all varieties work.

Bad allergy year too...my snot has been freely flowing for months now. Good to know, eh?

Colds stink!! I hope you are not getting it.

Thanks for the link... that is a great blog!
