Marathon PR: 4:17 at Portland Marathon, Oct. 2007

5K PR 24:37 2009

10K PR 52:58 2010

Have run 22 marathons to date.

No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :) 


Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year. 

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010. 

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

50F, steady rain, windy at times.  Club run (with invisible friends), and MP run: 4.5 miles easy, 4.5 miles MP, 1 mile easy.   MP splits: 9:12, 9:11, 9:00, 9:01, & half mi at 9:00.

"The atmospheric conditions have been very unfavourable lately," said Owl.
"The what?"
"It has been raining," explained Owl.
"Yes," said Christopher Robin. "It has."
"The flood-level has reached an unprecedented height."
"The who?"
"There's a lot of water about," explained Owl. 

The splits are fine, but I am not happy about the effort level it took to get them. Not happy at all.   Taper, please do your work!

I am really looking forward to meeting you, and I also need the taper to do it's work. I did not hit my goal MP today in spite of pushing the pace somewhat. I'm wondering what I'm going to be able to pull off come race day.

At least Eeyore didn't appear in your little dialog. He wouldn't have been happy with the rain at all.

It's funny how little, stupid things stick in your mind. We read W the Pooh so often when DD was little. All through my run I kept hearing Owl's voice (we did British accents of course), "there is a lot of water about."

Bring lots of Body Glide or Vaseline to Oregon in case it does this next weekend.

Focus on the mental this week, not the physical. You *can* hit your GMP. Throw today's effort memory away...it's probably you mind making it feel harder than it was. As soon as a negative thought pops in your head, push it out and replace it with positive, reinforcing thoughts. Believe it or not, that mumbo jumbo actually works!

Yeah, Sno, hay is in the barn. And nice and dry in there too! Effort always seems harder during the taper, I think. Great work on DOING the miles.
