No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

I feel like I'm on a roller-coaster.  Even though the weather has been only a little wet, the show arena where my daughter's horse show was to be held is too soggy and the show has been postponed yet again.

That means I am free to run the half-marathon on Saturday.  I decided in the middle of the night to take 2 days off in hopes that my legs will be fresh on Saturday.  Now I have to wrap my brain around it, go back and look at the course maps, etc.  Meanwhile, our friend's funeral is today.  I'm just trying to take one moment at a time.

It really does seem like you're on somewhat of an emotional roller coaster.

I hope the funeral goes well today and that it brings you some comfort.

Good luck with your race on Saturday. Maybe by not planning on it and then having it become a possibility again so soon before the race, you were able to avoid worrying about it for a long time before hand.

Good luck with you race Saturday, I'm sure you will do great!

I hope that the funeral helps give you some peace, but I think that will also come with time.

I'm sure Saturday will go well! I wish I were running it too. Good choice to take some days off.

I always take two days off before raceday. Just long enough to get a little restless. You're going to do great!

Sorry to hear about your friend. I hope the funeral was a time of joy and remembrance of good times.

Good luck. Maybe the late change will help prevent the overthinking phenomena and muscle memory will take over.

Hope the funeral was peaceful and reflective for you. And have fun tomorrow charging through the race!!
