No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

Mid 50s, partly cloudy. G-A run.

I am just going to keep on being boring, not much to report.  I'm quite busy these days, but I also just haven't been in much of a blogging mood lately.  Runs are somewhat lackluster due to sleep issues and, I suspect, medication issues (some change-of-life related rx).  Also, I hate summer. Sorry, but I really do.

I am hoping to get a medium-long, decent quality workout done this weekend, since I won't be able to do a true long run.

I know what you mean about summer. The more I get into running the more I appreciate inclement weather conducive to running. Plus it's easier to get to bed early when the sun isn't still in sight.

I don't like summer either...the only part I do like is that it is bright in the morning.

I love summer; I LIVE FOR SUMMER! I am Tigger in summer and Eyeore in winter. Sorry, had to say it.

I should clarify that I don't think it's the temperature that bothers me. "Heat" is relative, and people acclimate somewhat as summer goes by. (Furthermore, I have AC.) It's the brightness. I have always had a hard time with it. This is my theory: it might have to do with eye color or some weird brain chemistry. It's like the reverse of Seasonal Affective Disorder. I feel a complete lack of energy & motivation, and nothing seems worthwhile. Thankfully, our summers are very short here.

A-Em, I am surprised you live west of the Cascades. Though certainly glad, or we may not have ever met! And for that matter, I should probably live at the coast, where it's gray most of the year. Enjoy the coming week of sun; I'll be thinking of you!

I'm with you blog-wise.

Sno-is there medically such a thing? B/c seriously I got all giddy this afternoon at work when a realllly rough storm blew through. But today I tried to go outside and just enjoy the day (it was 90's) and I wanted to throw things. I felt lethargic and blah all day. I hate sun...maybe it our blue eyes. They are too sensitive.

April - All I know is what I have observed in myself all my life, that is: I feel energetic and am extremely productive on gray days. But when we get a lot of sunshine, like we always do in July-August, I feel depressed, tired, and cranky. I have had a few other friends who share my "affliction" and they all have either blue or green eyes. But it's certainly not a universal result of those eye colors. Interestingly, at this latitude the sun is pretty weak from October to March, and doesn't bother me at all in those months, though I still prefer clouds. I have been this way as long as I can remember, though I didn't see the pattern until I was an adult.
